Several PTA programs began this January, along with ongoing programs throughout the province. OPA invites all PTA students – from new PTA students to those in their final year, and practicing PTAs to join us for a workshop just for PTAs and PTs.
The PT/PTA workshop is hosted by Lynne Sinclair and Sonia Deleo on April 13 in Toronto. Lynne is a Physical Therapist, an Educational Consultant, an Assistant Professor with the Department of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (UT) and she serves as the Innovative Program and External Development Lead at the Centre for Interprofessional Education, UT. Sonia is an Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant who is currently employed as Clinical Instructor for the Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program at Humber College in the School of Health Sciences. In addition, she utilizes her clinical skills to teach and facilitate interprofessional educational opportunities within the Bachelor of Nursing, Practical Nursing and Personal Support Worker programs and support the Clinical Simulation initiatives.
This workshop will be an excellent opportunity for current practicing PTAs and PTA students from accredited programs across Ontario to come together and learn about how to work more effectively with your colleagues.
The interactive one day workshop will explore tools and resources to best support both physiotherapists and physiotherapist assistants to work together. By learning to use these tools and resources through practical examples, you and your PT colleague will become collaborative champions.
As a participant you will learn how to:
- Appreciate the value of PT and PTA roles and responsibilities.
- Directly apply tools and resources to promote relationships and collaborative practice.
- Create strategies to improve communication and collaborative skills in the workplace when faced with difficult conversations.
- Understand the importance of strong collaborative team dynamics in the context of an evolving healthcare system.
This session supports and models the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario Standard Physiotherapists Working with Physiotherapist Assistants. Participants are encouraged to register as a PT/PTA pair but can register as individuals.
